About Tappt®

  • Tappt® helps you stay on track with your medications and connected with your care team. You record each dose by tapping your phone on a Tappt smart label, and your care team can see how things are going and reach out when you need support.

    Tappt® is offered through health systems, clinics, pharmacies, and health plans as part of their care programs.

  • Tappt® labels use NFC, the same contactless technology you use when you tap your phone to pay at a store. When you hold your phone near the label, your phone reads it and records your dose. There's no battery, no charging, and no pairing.

    Each label is linked to your medication, so Tappt® knows which one you're recording. Some labels also have a QR code you can scan with your phone's camera.

  • An NFC medication label is a sticker with a tiny chip that your smartphone can read when you hold it close. NFC stands for near-field communication. Tappt® uses NFC labels so recording a dose takes a single tap, without typing or searching through an app.

  • You can tap your Tappt® label, scan its QR code, or record the dose in Tappt®. Use whichever is easiest for you. All three record your dose the same way.

  • Tappt® is provided through your program at no cost to you. Standard message and data rates from your phone carrier may apply.

Getting Started

  • Tappt® is offered through your care team. If your health system, clinic, pharmacy, or health plan offers a Tappt program, they'll invite you by text or give you an access code. Ask your care team if a Tappt® program is available for you.

  • Tappt® comes in two versions: a mobile app you download to your phone, and a web app that opens in your browser with nothing to download. We recommend the mobile app for the full Tappt® experience and more flexibility. Some programs use the web app only, so your care team will let you know which options are available to you.

  • Tappt® works with most smartphones that have internet access, over Wi-Fi or cellular data.

    • iPhone: iPhone 7 or newer can read Tappt labels. iPhone XS and newer read labels automatically. On iPhone 7 through iPhone X, you may need to open the NFC tag reader from Control Center first.

    • Android: most Android phones from 2012 or later have NFC. Some lower-cost models don't. You may need to turn on NFC in your settings.

    If your phone can't read NFC labels, you can still scan the label's QR code, if it has one, or record doses directly in Tappt®.

  • If your care team, pharmacy, or health plan enrolled you in a Tappt program, you may get a text with a secure link to get started. Tappt® texts never ask for passwords, payment, or your Social Security number, and they don't include health details. If you're not sure a text is from your program, contact your care team directly before opening the link.

    Tappt® texts come from the Tappt® Messaging Center at +1 (989) 712-2888, or from a number your care team has chosen for your program. We recommend saving the number in your contacts so you always recognize messages from Tappt®.

  • Getting started takes three steps:

    1. Sign in to Tappt®, following the instructions from your care team.

    2. Tap your label with your phone. If the label hasn't been linked to a medication yet, Tappt® will guide you through linking it. Just follow the instructions on your screen.

    3. Record your doses. Each time you take your medication, tap the label with your phone.

Staying on Track

  • Tappt® reminds you, and you can share why you missed it. Reasons like side effects, trouble getting a refill, or cost help your care team understand what's getting in the way, so they can follow up and offer support.

  • Tappt® tracks your medication adherence by recording each dose you take and comparing it with your care plan. You can see your progress over time, including an adherence score. Your score compares the doses you recorded as taken with the doses scheduled in your care plan. Taking extra doses doesn't raise your score.

    Taking your medications as prescribed gives them the best chance to work. Many studies use 80% as a benchmark for good adherence, and higher adherence is linked with better results for many conditions. Your care team can tell you the right target for your medication. If your doctor pauses or stops a medication, let your care team know in Tappt® so they can update your care plan and your score stays accurate.

  • Your program can share helpful resources in Tappt®, such as information about your medications or condition, tips for using Tappt®, and links to other support. New resources may be added over time, so check back often.

  • If your program offers it, you can choose a family member, friend, or caregiver to get updates about your doses. They get updates only after you invite them and they agree.

Working with Your Care Team

  • Tappt® check-ins are short questions from your care team about how you're doing. Your answers help your care team give you better support. Answering is always your choice.

  • The messaging center is where you and your care team communicate securely. It lives inside your Tappt app, web app, or portal, so your messages stay protected. You'll get a text with a secure link whenever a new message is waiting for you.

  • Please don't write health information or questions in a text reply. Texts are not a secure way to share information, and replies are not read by your care team.

    Tappt texts contain links that open your secure Tappt app, web app, or portal. To send a message to your care team, use the messaging center, which you'll find inside your secure Tappt app, web app, or portal.

    When your care team sends you a new message, you'll get a text with a secure link. Tap the link to open your messaging center, where you can read the message and reply to your care team.

    The only replies Tappt texts accept are:

    • STOP: stops all text messages from Tappt to your phone.

    • START: turns text messages back on.

  • No. Tappt® supports your care, but it doesn't replace medical advice. Always follow the instructions from your doctor, pharmacist, and care team. Do not start, stop, or change a medication based only on Tappt.

  • No. Tappt® is not monitored around the clock. If you have an urgent health concern, call your care team or 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.

  • Yes. Tappt® protects your information with encryption, access controls, and safeguards required by federal health privacy law (HIPAA). Your information is stored securely in the United States, and an independent expert reviews our security every year.

  • Your care team and the organization that invited you to your program can see your Tappt® activity. Family members or caregivers you choose can get basic updates. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.

  • No. We don't sell your information, and we don't use your health information for advertising.
